Purpose of the Academy
    The WABIP Academy is designed to assist practitioners and physicians in training achieve greater competency in all aspects of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, and to support the mission and vision of the WABIP.
Vision
    The Academy includes various educational activities and assessment instruments that may be used separately or together to enhance knowledge and document commitment to advancing the art and science of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. Contents are organized into a standardized evidence and experience-based curriculum that provides a foundation of knowledge, and yet is designed for growth as new topics and materials become available.

    Each WABIP Academy activity is led by an Editor-in-Chief and a group of Associate editors, who review materials, invite select authors to contribute scientific content, compose multiple-choice research questions, and work with the WABIP webmaster to assure the appropriate function of their respective sections on the WABIP Academy website.
Goals of the Academy are to provide
  • An internationally recognized curriculum relevant to the practice of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
  • A foundation of knowledge that will contribute to improved patient care, professional and academic growth, and benefit society.
  • Validation by the public, patients, and other parties relevant to practitioners of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
  • Continued medical education (CME and EACCME)
  • Professional designation for achievement in the field of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
How it works
    WABIP members register to participate in WABIP Academy activities. Topics and materials can be accessed anytime, and in any order. Educational activities include evidence-based products, interdisciplinary perspectives, and academically-focused interventions designed to enhance knowledge, promote science, improve clinical decision-making, and assure quality patient care regardless of one’s practice environment.
WABIP Academy educational activities include
  • The WABIP Academy Foundations of Bronchoscopy Program

    ○ A collection of PowerPoint slides, specific lectures, and essential reading dedicated to various aspects of flexible bronchoscopy. These can be viewed on-line and used for CME or EACCME credit.
    ○ After reading relevant material, a series of TEN multiple choice questions may be answered in order to obtain CME or EACCME credit. A 100% correct score is required to be credited for reading the material.
    ○ After viewing the presentations, Academy members may respond to a series of THREE multiple choice questions relevant to the contents of the lecture. These questions are found on-line. A 100% correct score is required to obtain credit for viewing the presentation. Credits may be used for CME or EACCME purposes.

  • The WABIP Academy Didactic Lecture Series

    ○ A collection of didactic lectures that can be viewed on-line and used for CME or EACCME credit.
    ○ After viewing the didactic lecture, Academy members may respond to a series of THREE multiple choice questions relevant to the contents of the lecture. These questions are found on-line. A 100% correct score is required to obtain credit for viewing the lecture. Credits may be used for CME or EACCME purposes.

  • The WABIP Academy Collection of scientific reviews and research papers.

    ○ A collection of key “must read” scientific articles, review papers, and original research papers published, for the most part, among the official journals of the WABIP (beginning in 2012). Each article is presented as a PDF file, copyrights having been obtained from the respective journals.
    ○ In general, FIVE papers are selected each year for inclusion in this collection.
    ○ After downloading and reading each “must read” paper, Academy members may elect to respond to a series of THREE multiple choice questions relevant to the contents of the article. These questions are found on-line. A 100% correct score is required to obtain credit for reading the paper. Credits may be used for CME or EACCME purposes.

  • The WABIP Academy Collection of Webcasts

    ○ A series of webcasts on different topics that can be viewed on-line. Some materials from the webcasts can be downloaded and saved to personal computers for subsequent use.
    ○ After viewing the webcast, Academy members may elect to respond to a series of THREE multiple choice questions relevant to the contents of the webcast. These questions are found on-line. A 100% correct score is required to obtain credit for viewing the webcast. Credits may be used for CME or EACCME purposes.
